With great sadness today I heard of the death of a resident as the result of a house fire.

Anthony Dowsley, from the Herald Sun, wrote:

Metropolitan Fire Brigade Commander Terry Kimpton said “A lot of residents have a lot of clutter, furniture and sometimes a lot of debris in their house, and it increases the fire load.  But it not only increases the fire load, it makes the means of exit for the occupants very, very difficult.”  The MFB and Victoria Police are yet to determine the cause of the blaze.

Please keep safe by ensuring you have a clear escape route in case of emergency, and that emergency service crews can access your home.  Keep a working battery in your smoke alarm, and test it on a regular basis.  Do you know someone who lives alone and can’t manage this stuff on their own?  Please help them too.
