Even while relaxing at the campsite, I’ve done a tiny bit of decluttering.  I brought along magazines I hadn’t looked at in years.  I’ve given them one last thoroughly good read and passed them on to a friend who was camping with us.

So that’s 103 and 104 gone.  I’ll be back at my desk soon with plenty of energy and the will to continue the Challenge!

I am on a roll! I have nearly found a whole room that we thought was a lost cause. Off our family room there is a bedroom which was to be my ‘craft room’. Well it became the room we shoved everything in when company came, or where we dumped odd things we didn’t know where to store, or stuffed all my craft things between bursts of jewellery making, scrapbooking, photography, picture framing, knitting, beading, sewing…(you get my drift). It came to the stage where you couldn’t see the floor. My husband and I have a vision of actually removing the wall between the family room and this bedroom and making a larger ‘L’ shaped family room. This would make the family room much more user friendly and we would still have 4 bedrooms.
Well after taking up the challenge, this is actually starting to look like a possiblility. I have been decluttering from different areas of the house but mainly from this room. My daughter made the comment “I never thought we could salvage this, I thought it was a lost cause”. My husband is so pleased with me and has actually started talking about how we will begin the renovation and what we will do with the space. So far I have banished 385 things from the house. The car always has 3-4 bags in the boot for the Op-Shop and the garbage bin always has a waiting line of bags ready to refill it after garbage day. And the recycle bin is overflowing with cardboard boxes and magazines and paper.
I’m hoping this motivation will spill over into other parts of my life. If I’m decluttering, I’m not sitting on my bottom. It actually gets me up and moving in short bursts which is better than just sitting. I’m starting to improve my outlook in many things. I had a great organizing blitz of the office over the beginning of January. New Year, new me. Things are looking up.

Wow, Pam. You really are making a difference. Sounds like your home, family life and own well-being are all benefitting from just decluttering.

Did you take “before” photos? If not, now might be a good time. And I’d love to see them!

Keep up the great work. 🙂
