I am thankful for mistakes. I always say it’s not a mistake if you learn something from it. I am thankful for other people sharing their mistakes. Not that I’m glad for their misfortune, but I think it’s incredibly generous to make yourself vulnerable so that others may learn from your mistakes.
Here are some things I’ve learned lately from other people’s mistakes. And thanks to those people for helping us all learn.
-
Never post books in the library return chute while holding your car keys in the same hand.
-
Never throw rubbish in a bin with car keys in your hand.
-
Never leave your engagement ring lying around where your toddler can wrap it in a tissue “parcel” (to then be flushed by someone else thinking it’s just a tissue).
-
Never assume the other person tightened the oil cap on your car.
-
Always read the fine print.
Have you got a mistake to share so that we all can learn?
How about this one…
Never donate (or consign) clothing without checking the pockets first.
While volunteering at a donation-drop center once I found a donated ski-jacket with $300.00 in the pocket and an unfilled prescription for the pharmacy.
The owner was contacted and both the money and prescription were returned.
Oh my goodness. What a close call, and a lucky break for the owner. Thanks for sharing, Geralin.
