Level Up Part TwoIn my last post, I wrote about how to level up in the Startup phase of an organising business. I also laid out the five different levels of an organising business. Now let’s move on to the next two stages…

Part-time

Most organisers start out working part-time. Many like to keep it that way because it suits their lifestyle. That’s one of the best things about a career as a professional organiser. It’s flexible. Part-timers tend to say yes to everything. They are figuring out the kind of work they like best, what they’re good at. They are learning about themselves and about business. They make mistakes and learn never to make those mistakes again.

What can Part-timers do to level up?

  1. Know your numbers. Get really intimate with your facts and figures. Know what it takes to fun your business, what brings in the most revenue.
  2. Based on knowing those crucial numbers, take time to plan and set goals. what do you want your business to look like in twelve months?
  3. Develop relationships – with clients, with colleagues, with suppliers. Those relationships will sustain you when you are having a low month and will cheer for you when you level up.

Full-time

Full-timers tend to have found their niche and are becoming known for it. They know the value of good marketing and may or may not have mastered it. They know there is always more to learn but may find it difficult to fit professional development into their busy schedule. One thing they are learning is that there is a finite number of hours in a week, and they are looking for ways to make more money with the hours they have. They have a growing list of clients and potential clients.

What can Full-timers do to level up?

  1. Make good use of your list. That database is golden and is the key to future growth.
  2. Turn your talents into products for sale. If you have a foolproof meal planning system, that is something people will pay good money for. Turn that into a class, an ebook or even a membership program.
  3. Invest in a coach or mentor. You want someone who has been there before you, who understands the industry and who can see possibilities where you can’t. You want someone cheering you on as you level up.

Stay tuned for the final post in this series. It’s all about how to level up when you are flying high and free as a bird.
