This week I gave my wardrobe a workout. A few things got flung. Most of the decision-making was easy. If it didn’t fit, was worn out or out of date, out it went. Then there was the grey area. Some clothes did fit, were nearly new and in season. There was no logical reason why I shouldn’t keep them, but I just didn’t wear them much. So here’s what I did (in fact, I do it every January) …
I turned all my coathangers around the “wrong” way. As I wear each item, it’ll be returned with the hanger the “right” way around. Then, by the end of the year/month/season I can see at a glance which clothes have been earning their keep, and which can be retired.
While you’re doing your own “Wardrobe Workout”, please do your clothes a favour and hang them on good quality hangers. They’ll look better for longer.
If you live in Melbourne or Brisbane, consider donating your lightly-used women’s workwear to Fitted for Work. They are a service committed to helping long term unemployed and disadvantaged women connect with work. Not only do I send my own clothes there, but those of my generous clients.
I like the idea of reversing the hangers so you can easily see what you have and haven’t worn, but I think it would drive me crazy not to have them all lined up the same way! 🙂
There’s an organization like that here in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, called Friends for Success
Hello Janet. Thanks for stopping by and for sharing info about Friends for Success.
I agree 100% on having all store bought hangers of the same variety but having tried a few different types I found the BEST hangers that will change your closet forever are the slim fit velvet ones. . . I have made believers of my closest friends and my entire family has replaced all their hangers with these. I live in the US and at bed bath and beyond you can buy a box of 50 for 40$ which is the cheapest I have seen them.
