Sometimes life throws you an unexpected challenge and you just have to deal with it as best you can. It’s good to know that, when needed, help is always available. For someone as independent as me, that can be a challenge in itself.
Two weeks ago I was leaving a comedy show with a smile on my face, which turned to frustration when I tripped in the dark, fell and broke my hand. Ugh! Since then I’ve been asking for help, and receiving it, much more than I am used to. Big thanks to all who’ve stepped in with that assistance, and with the sympathy and understanding.
There are so many things to be grateful for. In the fall, I got a fat lip but no broken teeth. There were no cracked ribs, no smashed specs. I broke my non dominant hand. It was an undisplaced fracture, meaning no need for surgery. I have access to excellent healthcare and supportive friends and family. And drumroll… I have the go ahead to travel overseas in two weeks (as long as I promise not to lift baggage, etc.). Looks like I’ll be asking for help with that too.
Having been forced to do less has also been a blessing. It’s given me time to reflect on what I truly value, and also shown me that slowing down has its benefits.
One thing I truly value is helping others. That’s why I love mentoring new and experienced organisers. Once I get back from my travels, at the end of July, I’ll be doing more of that. If you’d like to be first in line for that, drop me a line and we’ll make a plan. Believe me, I know from experience, it’s ok to ask for help.
As for slowing down, we’ll see what lies ahead. First, I have a trip to enjoy.
