For many this quiet time between Christmas and New Year has been set aside for tackling an organising project. And for many more, getting organised is a New Years resolution. There are several things that can turn good intentions into a failed attempt. Here are the most common mistakes people make.
- Underestimate the time it takes to work through a project
- Buy the storage solutions at the start of a project
- Have unclear goals for the space or the project
- Have unrealistic expectations from the space
- Let the unwanted stuff hang around
- Stop before the project is done
- Listen to well-intentioned but ill-informed advice
Look out for future posts on how to avoid making these mistakes.

I am currently working through lots of boxes of old office paperwork… have unpacked about 20 boxes and it has already taken 2 days and I have about 6 boxes to go… have been shredding and it is very liberating. I feel a weight has been lifted off my shoulders….
However, I have already made mistake no 1… it is going to take another day to finish the last boxes… and that is without sorting the stuff i am actually keeping.
I almost made mistake No 2 but stopped myself…. so get a tick on that one! I will be purchasing required storage solutions when I have finished the tossing out and am ready to start organising the bits I am keeping.
I will look forward to your future posts about avoiding these mistakes… as I want to keep the momentum going and be organised by mid January… and want to make sure I avoid mistake No 6 on your list!
Can’t wait!

Very true, Janet. It’s all about the client and their needs.
